Filling the Gap left by traditional OBBA chapters

In the beginning, there was one OBBA body. Over time, several chapters emerged within Sierra Leone and outside the borders of Sierra Leone. And over the years, graduates from the school living in other parts of the world found reasons to organize themselves into local chapters primarily to continue to foster brotherly hood and to emulate life style gained from the school.. Another reason for formation of these chapters has been to generate funds to provide some of the needs of the school. The Washington DC/Canada and the United Kingdom chapters have been front runners in raising funds and providing needed supplies for the school. A Delaware Valley chapter known as "OBBA - Upper NorthEastern Chapter" formed some 14 years ago is still struggling to get off the ground. There have been talks of a Chapter in Georgia. More recently, a chapter is believed to have been initiated in Texas. With the decline of government functionaries in the nation as a whole, the school administration caters more and more to these chapters for basic support. The chapters rely on monthly dues from their members and in some cases, annual fund raising dance to provide for the school. Although not restricted, chapter membership appear to attract people when the seat of the chapter is within their immediate environs. We introduce the concept of Virtual OBBA "VOBBA" to augment the traditional chapter brotherly hood by opening membership to anyone anywhere in the universe. We deliberate meetings in everybody's living room at any time day or night. There is really no excuse for not helping or belonging to OBBA any more. No one needs to drive to a meeting, or cook Saki or even the Friday special "torwei" for a meeting. It is all taken care for you. All you need is to participate. Virtual OBBA like the traditional chapters depends on funds to help the school. That is why you have to volunteer certain amount to enter into this area. VOBBA will establish goals periodically depending on the needs of the school. VOBBA's immediate goal is to provide a descent PC unit and accessories for the use of the principal in conducting the business of the school. VOBBA will like to have an office in the school or in Bo devoted to enhancing the needs of OBBA such as an office of alumni that will be used to foster relationship between the school, the graduates, and the parents. VOBBA needs your unwavering support. |
